Yesterday was HOTHOUSE talk day at London Met, this time with a freelance illustrator called Joe Cruz.
This talk was very interesting and somewhat more “organic” and realistic than the ones we’ve had before, maybe because Joe was rather open and sincere about the struggles that we might have as graduates and what happens when we leave uni.
He also talked about work experience and internships, which are not always an easy thing to find. After various attempts after graduating, Joe build a large web of contacts which helped him create his career and become the illustrator he is today.
His work is mainly based around fashion and collage, shapes and colour: Joe Cruz mentioned that one of his favourite things to do is to cut out random pictures from magazines or even the internet and just play around with them, creating smart and simple pieces of work.
